FAQ.

WHAT IS RECRUITMENT?

1.

Recruitment, or rush, is a week-long period at the beginning of each semester for students to connect with the members of our sorority and learn about our values and mission. Our events are designed to be both social and informative, providing a fun and welcoming environment for students to discover if our organization is the right fit for them. Past events include learning about and drinking hwachae and sago, decorating cupcakes, making decoden hairclips and photo frames, and painting lunch bags for the elderly. Best of all, all our events are completely free, so students are encouraged to talk with us, enjoy the experience, and explore the sorority with no obligation to commit.

WHAT IS A BID?

2.

A bid is an official invitation to start the journey of joining Kappa Phi Lambda. Following the conclusion of recruitment, bids are extended to individuals who align closely with the values and spirit of our organization. To be considered for a bid, you must attend a designated number of recruitment events and successfully complete an interview process.

What is Kappa Phi Lambda's
New Member Process like?

3.

The new member process is a meaningful educational journey where potential members engage in activities to immerse themselves in Kappa Phi Lambda's history, values, and sisterhood. While the duration and challenges of the process may vary, its primary purpose is to help you grow, discover more about yourself, and foster a deeper connection to the organization. Upon successfully completing this process, new members are officially initiated as sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda.

Will joining affect
my academics?

4.

Kappa Phi Lambda prioritizes academic excellence, understanding that a student's primary goal in college is to pursue their education. To participate in the sorority, members must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Furthermore, the new member process supports academic success by incorporating and encouraging regular study hours.

5.

Do I have to be Asian to join?

Absolutely not! While our sorority celebrates and promotes Pan-Asian culture, we warmly welcome women of all backgrounds to join us. In fact, our current membership reflects a rich tapestry of cultures and experiences. Cultural Diversity, one of our core pillars, is central to our identity. We believe that embracing each member’s unique contributions strengthens our community and makes us truly exceptional as a unified organization.

How will Kappa Phi Lambda enrich my college experience?

6.

College is a time for growth, exploration, and developing the skills needed to thrive beyond graduation. While academics are undoubtedly important, other skills—such as social, organizational, and leadership abilities—are equally vital for success, whether you’re preparing to enter the workforce or pursue further education. Joining a sorority offers an invaluable opportunity to cultivate these skills while fostering deeper connections within both the campus and local communities.

Will Kappa Phi Lambda give me opportunities for networking?

7.

With 4,000+ sisters worldwide and a close bond that connects us all, there are infinite networking opportunities. Many alumnae sisters participate actively in sorority activities. They are also involved in alum-only sisterhood activities and are kept updated through an alumnae network and close friendships. Years after graduation, sisters find success both professionally and personally, all the while continuing to represent the sorority's letters.
